- The ‘cold ironing’ connection is possible at ports that have the appropriate facilities.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 22 October 2023.
The endorsement from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of the Lloyd's Register certification of the projects and hard work from the Armas Trasmediterránea Group to contribute towards offsetting and absorbing their carbon footprint (CO2), demonstrates the company's firm commitment to the decarbonisation plans being carried out by the European Union and the Spanish Government.
To achieve this, Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea focuses its efforts on everything related to #EcoEfficiency. For instance, more efficient propulsion systems, which save up to 12% in fuel consumption, and the application of fluoropolymer paints, which reduce CO2 emissions by 6% and also contribute to lower fuel consumption thanks to their ability to overcome hydrodynamic resistance. This is evidenced by the ongoing grounding programme.
The plans include optimising the offices and terminals at the Armas Trasmediterránea Group and all the ports where they operate. One of the most notable examples of this is the progressive incorporation of ships to the electrical shore connection system, also known as cold ironing, as the ports where the company operates are becoming equipped with this system.
The Armas Trasmediterránea Group also promotes cleaning and trash collection campaigns on beaches and in public areas as well as environmental awareness. For this, it has agreements in place with several companies and organisations dedicated to these activities. It’s also important to mention that it was the first shipping company in the Spanish maritime sector to be declared #PlasticFree and #PaperFree.
